The Bihar Assembly Elections have left the citizens of Bihar in shock as the BJP sweeps 89 seats. 14 November 2025 is a landmark date in the history of Bihar, as the citizens have made their decision clear.
Background
Bihari politics, for years, has been centered around caste alliances, development promises, and shifting party coalitions. Ever since the 1990s, regional parties such as Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Janta Dal United (JD(U)) have been at loggerheads with the national Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar. In the run-up to the 2025 polls, alliances and leader moves mattered more than new policy debates: the JD(U) stayed in the NDA coalition with the BJP while the RJD led the opposing Mahagathbandhan.
Voter Turnout and Results
Early reports on the voter turnout in Bihar were reported to be around 70 percent, which turned out to be 67% in total. This was the highest voter turnout of all time in Bihari. As the voting concluded on 14 November 2025, the National Democratic Alliance(NDA) had a clear majority win by securing 202 out of 243 total seats in Bihar. Out of the 202, the BJP secured 89, the JDU secured 85, whereas the Lok Janshakti Party secured 19.
The Opposition Alliance Mahagathbandhan succumbed to 41 seats, with the RJD being the major contributor, securing 25 seats. The Congress and other left parties secured 6 and 6 seats respectively.
CM Candidates and Reactions
The Bihar election featured several prominent names in discussions around the chief minister’s chair, but the dominant narrative remained centered on continuity rather than change. Nitish Kumar stayed the primary and officially backed the CM face for the NDA, while the opposition highlighted Tejashwi Yadav as its choice, projecting youth leadership and employment promises. Amid this, Chirag Paswan emerged as a rising political figure with increasing public visibility, though he repeatedly clarified that he was not seeking the top post and that the NDA was united behind Nitish Kumar.
“There is no vacancy for the CM post in Bihar. Nitish Kumar will become the CM after the elections.”- Chirag Paswan

Bihar's Condition and Future
Bihar, for years, has been a victim of dirty caste politics, which has left the state far behind in the race for development. The Bihar Economic Survey 2024–25 reported strong nominal growth figures and noted improvement in some state revenues and investments. The state still faces high levels of rural poverty, underemployment, and seasonal migration. Employment and livelihood security remained central voter concerns in 2025.
