Delhi On High Alert As 19 Wanted Terrorist Posters Emerge

Delhi Police on Thursday stepped up security in the capital in view of upcoming Independence Day celebrations and also initiated putting up posters of 19 terrorists wanted by the authorities in various places across the city. The terrorists, who were linked to Indian Mujahideen, Al-Qaeda and Khalistani outfits, have been put on notice for the people of Delhi.

The police officials stated that posters with photographs and details of suspects would help create awareness among the public and also assist in tracking down the terrorists. Among the wanted list are Riyaz Bhatkal and Shabandri Mohammad Iqbal, popularly known as Iqbal Bhatkal, belonging to the Indian Mujahideen. The posters also displayed the names of Mohammad Sharjeel Akhtar, Abu Sufiyan and Syed Mohammad Arshiyan linked to Al-Qaeda and Khalistani terrorists.

Delhi Police Alert: Police Issue Helpline, Announce Rewards for Information

The posters bear the Delhi Police control room number 112 and message offering a reward for helping track down the wanted persons. Police officials said that they received intelligence about possible attacks on Delhi by Pakistani terror groups, Khalistani terrorists, and the risk of any sudden violent protests during the festive season.

Delhi Terror Alert: Security Tightened at Key Locations Ahead of August 15

Police have increased surveillance at railway stations, bus stands, markets, places of worship, and other vulnerable sites throughout Delhi. Moreover, police officials and coordinating units provide information about large gatherings in sensitive places and request people to report any suspicious activity observed there.

This kind of poster campaign is not new. Delhi Police typically runs the same exercise before August 15 and January 26 each year, when large crowds, VIP movement and tighter security planning are routine.
