A portion of the railway lines near Sirhind station in Punjab's Fatehgarh Sahib district blew up in the late hours of January 23, 2026, due to a minor blast. The blast left the Loco pilot of a freight train injured while also damaging some parts of the engine.
How did the incident happen?
The incident took place at around 9:50 PM when the train was passing through Khanpur village, located 4-5 kilometers away from the Sirhind station, according to a Government Railway Police official.
The DIG said that there was no loss of life or major loss of property.

Addressing these rumours, DIG Singh said, " Who did it, why it was done and what was the motive would be known as the investigation progresses," he said, adding, "We will soon trace and arrest those who are behind it.
Investigations
The investigations regarding the incident are still in process. No official statements have been made regarding the nature of the activity. The State Government of Punjab is working on the investigation as well as the damage mitigation. The Loco Pilot's condition is stable, but the real culprit remains unknown.
