Alleged Suspects

Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, the Chief Minister of Balochistan, condemned the incident, calling it a “terrorist attack.”

Bugti stated on X, “The terrorists cannot weaken the nation’s resolve through cowardly acts. The sacrifices of the people and security forces will not go in vain. We remain committed to making Balochistan peaceful and secure."

Pakistan’s President also expressed his condolences and accused India of playing a role in this attack.

Balochistan is a hub for insurgent separatist activities. These groups have constantly been protesting against the government and demanding freedom from Pakistan altogether, attacking Military personnel and Politicians.

Balochistan’s Struggle

Balochistan’s demand for freedom stems from a complex interplay of history, politics, economics, and identity. Being the largest province of Pakistan, Balochistan is rich in natural resources (gas, coal, copper, gold, and Gwadar port). But the economic and social conditions of Balochistan still remain poor and underdeveloped. The government's blatant ignorance of Balochistan’s condition has angered its citizens, leading to the formation of separatist groups.

Another reason for Balochistan’s isolation is cultural differences. The Baloch have their own language, traditions, and tribal systems. Some feel their culture is being sidelined in a state dominated by other ethnic groups.
