The finals series that was destined for greatness, and the Oklahoma City Thunder accepted the greatness with both hands. The Paycom Centre turned into a concert when Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the team lifted the shining golden trophy.
Game 7 had all the answers for everyone waiting for the same question: Who will win? The Oklahoma City Thunder, after a terrific run throughout the season, had final celebrations as they won Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals to win their first title since relocating from Seattle in 2008. A nail-biter game ended in OKC’s favour with a final score of 91-103.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander – A rare record holder
SGA had a season of pure class and sheer dominance every time he stepped on the court. When it mattered the most, when all eyes were on him, he stood tall like an Everest to overshadow everyone else. 29 points, 12 assists and 5 rebounds, a double-double performance by the fan favourite SGA in the finals game. He earned his name in a rare record, becoming a player with a season MVP, Finals MVP, and scoring title. Players before SGA to achieve this record were Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1971), Michael Jordan (1996) and Shaquille O’Neal (2000).
Alongside SGA, Jalen Williams scored 20 points, 4 assists, and 4 has also been a very important player along the season from OKC in their tremendous wins. Chet Holmgren was a wall that the Indiana Pacers could not break; his defence made a huge difference in the game.

Haliburton’s injury hurt the team hard
The Indiana Pacers were all ready to win their first-ever title in NBA history. It was OKC’s home court, but the Pacers were not bothered by that. They started well, but fate had different plans for the Pacers and Tyrese Haliburton. In the first quarter, a player who had played a crucial role and been a point of difference in the game they had won, got severely injured. Tyrese Haliburton, who did not play much in game 5 due to injury, got better and gave a classic performance in game 6 and was once again there to give his best, but got badly injured in the first quarter. A player who gave his heart and soul in all the games was suddenly out of the match, and his absence was seen in other players.

Pacers’ Obi Toppin said, “We needed Ty out there.” The team looked shattered with his injury, which resulted in the worst scenario for the Pacers, which is losing the final game of the NBA Finals 2025. Despite this knife-in-the-heart situation, Pascal Siakam did everything he could to take the Pacers across the victory line by scoring 16 points. Between all this chaos, young blood Bennedict Mathurin once again rose in the final’s spotlight and scored 24 points and 13 rebounds but in the end, it wasn’t enough for the win.

OKC ultimately achieved greatness
A team that played with a fearless intent, a team that had a belief to defeat any team that came in front of them. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with his masterclass in every game, Chet Holmgren guarding the rim, Jalen Williams with all-round performances and Alex Carusso with critical key plays in matches- all of them made a dream come true by lifting the Trophy. Oklahoma City Thunder got a very competitive opponent in the Finals series, the Indiana Pacers, who gave tough time to the players of the Pacers every time they stepped on the court and made this Finals series a blockbuster and entertaining. At the end, it is the Oklahoma City Thunder who have engraved their name with greatness in the history of the NBA Championship as the winners.
