Stepping Into the Spotlight
Singer and Songwriter EJAE is about to step into what she calls "unknown territory." Having spent most of her career behind the scenes, she's now debuting as a solo artist with her first single, In Another World, accompanied by a heartfelt music video.
EJAE rose to global recognition as the singing voice of Rumi in K-pop Demon Hunters, the hit Netflix animated film. The movie's fictional girl group, Huntrix, made waves on the Billboard charts with four Top 10 songs that brought EJAE's vocals to an international audience.
The Right Time for a Debut
Speaking to Variety, EJAE said the release of "In Another World" felt like a natural next step after the success of K-pop Demon Hunters, when listeners began to discover her singing voice.
"They wanted to hear more, and I was like, 'I'm down if you guys are willing.' The timing just felt organic."
Although she's written hit songs like "Psycho" for Red Velvet, EJAE wanted her solo debut to represent her full creative identity. She further added that she doesn't want to be seen as a "K-pop" artist but sees herself as a songwriter.
"I don't want to be boxed into being a "K-pop artist", she told Variety. "I view myself as a songwriter of every genre."
The singer revealed that she wrote In Another World two years ago at a songwriting camp in Canada, inspired by a personal turning point in her relationship. The song explores the ideas of what might have been if circumstances were different, a reflection that helped her accept the reality and move forward.
She explained that the track connects with the themes of K-pop Demon Hunters, where accepting one's inner demons leads to true growth.

A Love Letter to Her Younger Self
The accompanying music video adds another layer of meaning. EJAE described it as a love letter to her younger self, showing both her childhood and present-day selves playing piano, symbolizing the collision of two worlds. What began as a song about love and loss evolved into a story of self-discovery and healing.
What's Next For EJAE
Looking ahead, EJAE confirmed to Variety that more music is coming. She said it's about finding what feels right for her and what people can actually connect with, not just sad songs, but any emotion that feels genuine.
EJAE's In Another World marks not just a debut, but a declaration, one that signals her evolution from behind-the-scenes hitmaker to a voice of her own world.
