Sunny Deol’s Batwara (1947) had a slow box office start at ₹4.5 crore before rebounding on Day 2 to reach a two day net of ₹19.25 crore. However, it trailed behind Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2, which dominated the holiday weekend with a two day domestic net total of ₹55.75 crore across India.
Sunny Deol's Batwara (1947) got off to a slow start at the box office. Although it gained momentum over the weekend, it could not surpass Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2. The major reason for the slow start was low pre release buzz.
Batwara (1947) produced under Aamir Khan Productions and starring Sunny Deol alongside Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Abhimanyu Singh and others. The film marks the fourth collaboration between Sunny Deol and director Rajkumar Santoshi. Their previous collaborations were Damini, Ghayal and Ghatak. Released on Friday (August 14), Batwara (1947) is set against the backdrop of the Partition where a Muslim man discovers a Hindu woman who refuses to leave. Sunny Deol's exceptional performance captivated the audience. However, reviews remain mixed.
On its opening day, Batwara (1947) recorded a low earning of ₹4.5 crore nationwide which is lower than Sunny Deol's Gadar 2. The second day witnessed a growth of 134.8%, earning ₹13.50 crore across 8,071 shows in India more than double its opening day collection. The total domestic net collection stands at ₹19.25 crore, with a domestic gross of ₹22.91 crore.
Overseas, the film grossed ₹3.5 crore with a Day 2 net earning of ₹2 crore, bringing the worldwide gross collection to ₹26.41 crore. Evening shows received the highest footfall, with an overall occupancy rate of 35.37%.

On Day 2, both Awarapan 2 and Batwara (1947) saw steady box office growth, benefiting from the Independence Day holiday with Emraan Hashmi’s sequel maintaining a clear lead. According to Sacnilk, Awarapan 2 earned ₹33.75 crore net in India, taking its two-day domestic total to ₹55.75 crore. The sequel opened at ₹22 crore, marking the biggest opening of Emraan Hashmi's career.
Notably, it has benefited from nostalgia surrounding the 2007 original. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 also stars Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi and Suvinder Vicky. The original film developed a cult following despite its modest theatrical performance.
