Jharkhand JPSC-JSSC Protest Intensifies as Student Is Hospitalised

A student participating in the indefinite hunger strike was taken from Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium to Sadar Hospital on Friday after his health worsened, as the protest over alleged irregularities in the recruitment examination has entered its 14^th  day.  

Meanwhile, six students are still on Hunger strike as part of the ongoing agitation. Two student organisations have announced a march towards the Jharkhand Assembly, where the Monsoon Session is currently underway. 

Jharkhand Student Protest

 Protesters have been continuously calling out for the cancellation of the 14^th Jharkhand Public Service (JPCS) Civil Services Preliminary Examination, alleging irregularities in the recruitment process. They have also demanded an impartial investigation, either by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or by a committee of retired High Court judges from outside Jharkhand. 

Students appoint delegation for talks with government officials

On Thursday, students protesting formed an 11-member delegation to meet with the state government after Chief Minister Hemant Soren said his government was willing to hold talks with the students.

Whereas, protestors have insisted on a direct meeting with Chief Minister Hemant Soren and a public commitment regarding their demands. Meanwhile, All India Students’ Association (AISA) and All India Students’ Federation (AISF) have announced their plans to conduct a march towards the Assembly during the ongoing Monsoon session. 

 Ahead of these planned demonstrations by the student protestors, authorities have imposed prohibitory orders within a 750-metre area around the Vidhan Sabha building from 6 August to 12^th August. These restrictions will be applicable daily from 6 am to 10 pm throughout this period. 

Jharkhand Student Protest News: Opposition highlights issue in Assembly

The students’ protest issue also resonated inside the Jharkhand Assembly on Thursday, while opposition MLAs raised slogans on the premises on the opening day of the Monsoon Session. This protest, started on July 25 by the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium located in Ranchi, grew into one of the largest student-led movements witnessed in Jharkhand in recent years.
