Two people lost their lives, whereas a young woman was rescued after a car was swept away due to the powerful flow of water current near Kandoli Bridge on Poundha Road, located in the Prem Nagar area of Dehradun, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) stated.

According to the SDRF, they received information late at night about an SUV being swept away by rainwater near the Kandoli Bridge in the Lower Kandoli area.

After receiving the alert, an SDRF team from Dakpatthar, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Suresh Tomar, immediately reached the location and initiated search-and-rescue efforts.

One Man and two women were travelling in their vehicle when it was swept away by the strong water current, an SDRF official said.

The official also stated that rescue and search operations continued throughout the night despite the challenging weather conditions. An injured woman identified as Sehaj, daughter of Gulshan Baveja, was found and rescued around two kilometres from the accident site. She was subsequently handed over to the police.

SDRF and rescue teams continued their search operation despite rainfall and strong water currents; they worked throughout the night at the site of the incident and nearby areas.

Two Bodies Recovered

The bodies of two remaining occupants were recovered. One was identified as 20-year-old Akshay from Jaipur, Rajasthan, while the other was an unidentified young woman. These bodies were handed over to police for further legal proceedings and post-mortem examination.

SDRF on High Alert

SDRF team has been placed on high alert due to the Orange alert in Uttarakhand. Preparedness of teams was reviewed by Commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi across the affected area; he directed them to remain alert and fully equipped for operations.
