Sanjay Gupta’s Film Career: From Kaante to Kaabil

Gupta began in post-production and sound design, and assisted director Pankaj Parashar on the TV series Karamchand and the film Jalwa. He then built a reputation for slick, stylised filmmaking, with crime-based storylines and urban settings.

His collaboration with actor Sanjay Dutt produced some of his most recognised work: Kaante (2002), Musafir (2004), Zinda (2006) and Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007). The last was based on the 1991 Lokhandwala Complex shootout, with Gupta serving as director, producer and co-writer. He returned to real-life crime with Shootout at Wadala (2013).

Gupta also explored other genres, including Jazbaa (2015) with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Kaabil (2017) with Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam. His other directorial work includes the anthology Dus Kahaniyaan (2007), Acid Factory (2009) and Mumbai Saga (2021), starring John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi.
