Students present at the rally site under JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch have continued their protest despite assurances granted by the Hemant Soren government regarding changes to the recruitment process.
According to senior officials, detention took place after the members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad began their procession from the old Vidhan Sabha area in Ranchi.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Tuesday (August 11, 2026) organised a protest march from the old Vidhan Sabha to the new Vidhan Sabha in Ranchi, as student protests continue across Jharkhand.
This demonstration comes amid growing concerns among students and job aspirants over the alleged irregularities in examinations and the State's recruitment process.
On Monday, a day earlier (10 August, 2026), police officials used lathis and water cannons to disperse protesters during a "Vidhan Sabha Gherao" march by JPSC and JSSC aspirants in Ranchi. Protesters are still demanding action over alleged irregularities in examination and recruitment processes, claiming that the state government has not fully addressed their concerns.

The health conditions of four students who were protesting and underwent treatment at Sadar Hospital in Ranchi after being part of a hunger strike over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations remain concerning.
A core committee member of the JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch said two protesters, Habiba and Rahul Kranti, are currently receiving treatment at Sadar Hospital. Habiba was admitted on Tuesday, while on 7th August, Kranti was brought to the hospital. Two other protesters, Devendra Nath Mahto and Mahendra Pratap, who were also on hunger strike and receiving medical care at the hospital, are associated with the JSSC-Chhatra Manch.
The deputy superintendent of Sadar Hospital said.
Their health is being monitored, with periodic check-ups being conducted at regular intervals.

On Monday, BJP intensified its criticism of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress government in Jharkhand, while Rahul Gandhi, opposition leader in the Lok Sabha, criticised the police action against students taking part in the protests.
Babulal Marandi, Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly and a senior BJP leader, challenged the Congress leadership to withdraw its support for the Hemant Soren government if it genuinely stood behind the demands raised by the protesting students.
Mr Gandhi said this during a press conference in Delhi.
“My message to Jharkhand students is very clear. We condemn any violence against peacefully protesting students."
