According to an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter India, Actor Kritika Kamra is set to lead Dumbbell, the upcoming directorial debut of Pushaan Mukherjee. The drama film is expected to begin production in Mumbai next month, marking another major project for Kamra following her recent appearances in Matka King and The Great Shamsuddin Family.

While the makers are yet to reveal plot details, Dumbbell is currently in the advanced stages of pre-production. Industry sources indicate that the film is being developed as a character-driven drama, with the creative team focusing heavily on the film's tone and visual world before filming begins.

Mukherjee previously worked as an assistant director on films including Kapoor & Sons and Jab Harry Met Sejal. He also contributed as a writer for the crime thriller series Abhay. Dumbbell will mark his first feature film as a director.

Kritika Kamra begins preparation for the film

Sources close to the production said Kritika Kamra has already started preparing for the project through workshops, script-reading sessions, and internal creative meetings. The actor recently participated in a table read alongside key members of the cast as the production moves closer to its shooting schedule.

According to the report, the team has prioritised detailed preparation before the cameras roll, with extensive work currently underway behind the scenes.

'Matka King' star continues expanding her screen career

Kamra rose to fame in the indian television industry with several iconic roles, such as Arohi Sharma in Kitani Mohabbat hai, Dr. Nidhi Verma in Kuch Toh Log Kahenga, among others. The actor continues to expand her slate with a mix of drama and mainstream titles.

The upcoming production also marks her first major film announcement following her wedding to television presenter and cricket commentator Gaurav Kapur earlier this year.

The actor is also expected to return for the second season of Matka King alongside Vijay Verma. The series, co-created and directed by Nagraj Manjule, was recently renewed for another season.
