PM Modi To Address SRCC's Centenary Celebrations Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) today, September 5, to attend the college's centenary celebrations. The visit coincides with Teachers' Day. According to the Prime Minister's Office, Modi is scheduled to address the gathering at 7 PM. Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi is also expected to attend. SRCC, a constituent college of the University of Delhi, was founded in 1926 by industrialist and philanthropist Sir Shri Ram under the name Commercial College and was renamed Shri Ram College of Commerce in 1951.

Return After Thirteen Years

 Modi's first public address to the students of SRCC was in 2013, when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat and delivered the speech on the anniversary of his taking office as Gujarat's chief minister after his victory in the state's assembly elections in December 2012. Footage of the address has since resurfaced on social media after news of his visit to the college on September 5 broke out. This year, members of SRCC's Governing Body met Modi at his residence to mark the centenary and a commemorative postage stamp was unveiled at the meeting.

Planned Interaction With Gen Z Students

A key part of the programme is a planned direct interaction between Modi and SRCC students, most of whom belong to the Gen Z age group. The exchange is expected to allow students to raise their views, aspirations and concerns directly with the Prime Minister. It falls within the BJP's broader Gen Z outreach effort, for which the party has reportedly set up a dedicated team of senior and younger leaders to engage young Indians on education, employment, entrepreneurship, technology and innovation.

Campus Preparations and Security

In preparation for the visit, SRCC has made some repairs and planted saplings on internal roads near the entry point that Modi is likely to use. Students have posted photos of the developments on social media, with some comparing the place before and after the announcement. Entry to the event will require people to fill out a Google form, and access is expected to be tight, with no outsiders allowed without registration or special invitation. The college sports complex, where the event is likely to take place, has been partially barred as a result of the announcement. In addition, security around the campus has been beefed up with army and CRPF personnel deployed there, while Delhi Police has been carrying out inspections and checking entry and exit points.

A separate claim, attributed to unnamed sources, suggests Modi will also visit a Delhi Metro station during the trip.
