American Politics: Behind the Defeat

Polling indicated that the election results were largely influenced by voter dissatisfaction with the current administration, economic concerns, the cost of living crisis and the war in Iran. Following the election, President Donald Trump stated that he was "absolutely willing to accept those results" and that if he had been on the ballot, Republicans would have won the election in a "landslide".

The newly divided government is expected to fight intense political battles over the next two years, as Democrats push for investigations into Trump's ties with Jeffrey Epstein, alleged abuses by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the war in Iran.
