Nifty 50 Today: Financials and Autos Lead the Rally

Nifty 50 today saw broad-based buying, with Bajaj Finance, Shriram Finance, Interglobe Aviation, Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles emerging as the top gainers. Bajaj Finance jumped over 7 percent. On the losing side were Apollo Hospitals, ONGC, NTPC, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories and Coal India.

Sectorally, the Auto index surged about 4 percent, while Realty, PSU Bank, Nifty Bank and Private Bank rose around 3 percent each. IT and consumer durables gained over 2 percent. Only energy (down 0.3 percent) and media (down 0.8 percent) ended in the red. ICICI Bank also hit an all-time high on the BSE during the session.

The broader Indian stock market participated too, with the Nifty Midcap index up 1.8 percent and the Smallcap index rising 0.5 percent. The rupee closed 17 paise higher at 94.47 per dollar.

Technical analyst Vatsal Bhuva of LKP Securities noted that Nifty has reclaimed all key moving averages, though RSI near 75 signals possible near-term consolidation. He sees immediate support at 24,200 and 24,000, with resistance at 24,800 and 25,000.

Indian Stock Market: Why the Indian Stock Market Rallied Today

Analysts credited a mix of global and domestic triggers. Geojit’s Vinod Nair said the US midterm verdict raised hopes that a more restrained Washington could ease the Iran conflict and tariff tensions. Brent crude fell about 9 percent to near $95 a barrel, easing worries about India’s import bill and inflation. Softer US Treasury yields, a weaker dollar, steady foreign buying and healthy Q2 earnings added to the optimism.

Corporate action also made headlines, with Adani Ports announcing the acquisition of Evos BV for €1,184 million. Several companies reported quarterly results, including Samvardhana Motherson, Ipca Laboratories and Berger Paints.

However, caution remains. Brickwork Ratings’ Rajeev Sharan pointed out that physical crude prices in the Middle East still sit above $100, and PL Capital’s Vikram Kasat flagged a possible US Fed rate hike in December as a source of volatility. Whether the rally sustains will depend on crude prices, foreign flows, earnings and market breadth.
