India sealed the T20I series against Afghanistan with a commanding 7 wicket win at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. Jasprit Bumrah took an early wicket. Nitish Kumar Reddy starred with three wickets, while Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma powered India’s chase.
The Men in Blue delivered an exceptional performance at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi cruising to a 7 wicket victory over Afghanistan in the second T20I sealing the series. Powered by an explosive opening partnership between Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma alongside a disciplined bowling display led by all rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, the hosts chased down a target of 160 with 31 balls to spare. India takes an un-catchable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
After winning the toss and opting to field, India immediately put pressure on the visitor's batting lineup. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh set a tight tone early. Bumrah delivered a precise maiden over that led to the early dismissal of Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a duck.
Afghanistan struggled to build momentum against India’s attack, reaching just 51 for 1 off 8 overs. The breakthrough came when Nitish Kumar Reddy was brought into the attack. Reddy also clinched the Player of the Match title taking 3 wickets in 3 overs and conceding just 24 runs. He broke through Afghanistan’s middle order, picking up key wickets, including Ibrahim Zadran (37 runs off 33 balls) and Gulbadin Naib (10 runs off 8 balls).
Supported by spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who came into the side for the injured Varun Chakravarthy, India kept the run rate contained. Despite a late, aggressive cameo from Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan (28 runs off 16 balls), the visitors were restricted to 159/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

India made light work of the 160 run target launching an aggressive batting right from the start of their innings. Opening batters Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson capitalized on Afghanistan's decision to hold back fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi during the powerplay.
Abhishek set the early pace with fluent boundaries scoring 39 runs off just 19 balls including three towering sixes off Mohammad Nabi. Samson quickly matched the intensity, striking a rapid 57 runs off 21 balls to take the game completely out of Afghanistan's reach. The duo carried India to 82 for 0 by the end of the powerplay.
Although Rashid Khan eventually dismissed both openers in quick succession, Ishan Kishan ensured there were no further stumbles, scoring an unbeaten 38 to wrap up the match in 14.5 overs. Samson blistered a half century, while Reddy earned the Player of the Match honors for his crucial three wicket haul.
Indian Skipper Shreyas Iyer praised the team's performance and opened up about the challenges he faced early in his captaincy. He mentioned
Looking at the last game, they were demanding a comprehensive win from themselves, and today was the right example of that. He admits it was a tough call to swallow at the start of his captaincy journey, but says he has to maintain his equilibrium and not think too much about the past.
Further, Indian opener Sanju Samson in the post match conference shed light on doubts surrounding competition within the team, stating that the competition is for the outside world and not within the team. He stressed that there is no chatter within the team about one player being snubbed or another not getting enough opportunities.
"I think they (Sooryavanshi and Abhishek Sharma) are competitors for the outside world, but we are a team, and we are playing for our country. We want to win the game first, and then it comes down to the other individuals. We cannot sulk or be in a negative frame of mind, thinking, 'Oh, I did not get it, why was it given to him?' Those kinds of mindsets do not work here. "
