5 Members Found Dead in Raipur, Murder-Sucide Suspected

5 members of a family in Raipur were found dead at their residence. Police suspect suicide; an investigation into the motive is underway.

About the Incident

The tragedy came to light at around 10:00 PM on Friday in Sanjay Nagar locality under Tikrapara police station limits in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Five members of the family, including a couple, their adult son, and two minor daughters, were found dead in their rented accommodation, where they had been living for past eight months.

The victims were identified as battery trader Sajid Ali (50), his wife Rabia Bano (45), son Irshad Ali (20), and daughters Shahida Begum (15) and Irshaba Parveen (12).

The house had been locked since Thursday evening. Neighbours notified police after noticing a foul odour emanating from the premises and receiving no response to their calls, following an alert from a co-tenant to the landlord regarding the unusual situation.

About the Investigations: Raipur Police Suspects Murder-Suicide Case

Police suspect a murder-suicide and are scanning local CCTV footage, examining mobile phones, and analysing recovered documents. Preliminary findings indicate that the 50-year-old head of the family, a battery trader, mixed poison into his family's food before taking his own life.

When police broke open the door, his body was found hanging on the ceiling, while the other four family members were lying on the floor with froth around their mouths. Laced food items were seized from the scene. Tikrapara Thana Prabhari Inspector Rajesh Marai stated

Prima facie, it appears that poison may have been mixed with food. We are investigating all possible angles.

A case of unnatural death has been registered. While the exact cause and time of death will be confirmed following postmortem and forensic reports, police suspect financial distress as a potential motive. Officials have urged residents not to panic or spread rumours while the detailed investigation continues.
