BRICS Summit 2026: Delhi Traffic Restrictions Begin Today, Check Routes and Timings

As the 18th BRICS Summit commence today, New Delhi commuters can expect traffic restrictions and diversions across several key roads between 2 pm and 8:30 pm on Friday, September 11. The leaders and delegates from BRICS member countries will be gathering at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan to discuss upon global cooperation, economic development and international affairs. Hence, there will be heightened security arrangements which are likely to affect regular traffic movement. 35 roads will be under regulated movement and 22 diversion points have been identified across Central, South and New Delhi.

Delhi Traffic Police has advised commuters to plan their journeys, allow extra travel time and, wherever possible, use public transport, particularly the Metro. Emergency and essential-service vehicles will be given priority passage during the restrictions.

Delhi Traffic Restrictions Today: Check Affected Roads

All the major roads affected today are: Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Akbar Road, Tees January Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Mathura Road, Moti Lal Nehru Marg and Dr Zakir Hussain Marg.

Other controlled roads include: Brig Hoshiyar Singh Marg, Africa Avenue Road, Shanti Path, Janpath, Ashoka Road, Barakhamba Road, Tolstoy Marg, Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Niti Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Kemal Ataturk Marg, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Press Enclave Road, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Josef Broz Tito Marg and Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.

The 22 diversion points include locations around Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, Moti Bagh, Lodhi Road, Neela Gumbad, Mathura Road and Mandi House. At Dhaula Kuan and Moti Bagh, traffic may be diverted towards alternative corridors such as Ring Road, Vande Mataram Marg and Rao Tula Ram Marg.

Delhi Traffic Advisory: Diversions and Commuter Guidelines

The traffic advisory has also outlined alternate routes for commuters travelling through the affected areas. Traffic police personnel will be deployed to regulate movement, and commuters have been advised to follow designated diversion routes and instructions on the ground.

Emergency and medical vehicles will be provided obstruction-free passage across Delhi, while essential services and utilities will continue to have uninterrupted access in all zones. Commuters are also advised to avoid unnecessary travel through the affected corridors during the restriction period and factor additional time into their journeys.

Delhi Metro Services to Remain Unaffected

Despite the traffic restrictions, Delhi Metro services will remain fully operational at all stations on September 11, according to the Delhi Traffic Police. Commuters travelling during the restriction period can therefore consider the Metro as an alternative to road travel.

The traffic police have particularly advised the public to use public transport to avoid delays caused by diversions and increased traffic movement on alternate routes.

Parking, Road Safety and Traffic Updates

The advisory also includes specific instructions on parking and road discipline. Commuters have been asked to park only in designated areas, with roadside parking within 200 metres of controlled roads strictly prohibited.

The public has been urged to follow traffic personnel's instructions and obey traffic rules patiently. Delhi Police has also advised citizens to immediately report any unidentified objects or suspicious activity to the nearest police officer.
