Twisha Sharma Case: Know Why Special CBI Court Denied Bail to the Accused

As investigations in the dowry death case of Twisha Sharma continue, bail plea of the accused mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, who a retired district judge has been rejected. She sought bail on a recent theft reported at her residence and her responsibilities as the primary caregiver for her 100 year old mother in law.

However, considering the seriousness of the allegations, potential witness tampering and her institutional influence the Special CBI Court rejected her bail plea. The court has granted the agency additional time for further investigation and extending judicial custody until August 11, 2026.

About The Twisha Sharma Case

Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old former Miss Pune and resident of Noida married Samarth Singh, an advocate based in Bhopal. The engagement took place on May 12 2025 and they were married in December 2025. On May 12 2026, the victim's family was informed that Twisha was no more, with initial claims alleging she had committed suicide. The victim's family filed an FIR three days later on May 15, 2026.

The victim's family alleged that Twisha had been mentally tortured for dowry, subjected to a forced abortion, denied access to food, and isolated from her family and friends.

Accused Samarth Singh absconding right after the FIR was registered and his elder brother was already divorced raised serious questions before he was apprehended on May 22, 2026.

What Does the Accused State?

In response, the accused claimed that Twisha exhibited a 'dual personality.' Speaking to ANI, Giribala Singh mentioned on Twisha's behavior prior to the marriage. She claimed to have enrolled Twisha in a mental health initiative providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to long-term prisoners, while also providing her with law books to study wanting to see a positive change in Twisha's life.

The Ex-Judge further mentioned that Twisha was a religious person before marriage but stopped practicing afterward. She also alleged that while tghe actress initially said she loved children, she later underwent an abortion. In response, the victim's family asserted that she was forced to abort the child because her husband accused her of bearing a child that was not his. The accused's family also alleged that Twisha abused drugs claims that the victim's family strongly denied.

About The Investigations So Far

Investigations later revealed call record details showing calls to judges and others in power had been made soon after Twisha's death. Chats have been revored wherein the victim wanted to go back home or was seen in trouble.

Emphasizing Twisha's positive personality and pointing out that the police were not immediately informed after she was found dead, her family suspects it to be a pre-planned murder. One of her sisters told ABP News that she remarked that marriage was a vital phase of her life and cannot attempt sucide.

Questions regarding the fairness and legitimacy of the initial post-mortem led to a court-ordered second post-mortem conducted by AIIMS Delhi on May 24, 2026. Forensic experts focused on whether a gym belt recovered from the scene matched the ligature marks on Twisha's neck, after skin tissue was found on the belt. AIIMS Delhi submitted its final findings to the CBI in a sealed cover on July 12, 2026. Following the second autopsy, Twisha's last rites were performed.

Interrogations with friends revealed that Twisha was a supportive friend who always wanted to live life and start a family. As per NewsX one of her friends mentioned that Twisha's mother-in-law had forced her to delete all her photos from Instagram, which she did, and that she was continuously questioned regarding her activity on other digital platforms. It was also noted that the corporate firm she previously worked for had closed down.

During the ongoing investigations, a theft occurred at the accused's residence, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was tasked with identifying the perpetrators. The thief reportedly stole crucial legal documents. While the theft remains under investigation, the victim's family stated it was staged to divert attention from the case, questioning why a thief would steal paperwork instead of monetary valuables.

Why Did the Court Denied the Bail Plea?

In the bail hearing before the Special CBI Court, the defense argued that Giribala Singh a judicial and war widow pensioner had no financial motive for dowry demands and highlighted her duties as the primary caregiver for her 100-year-old mother, alongside the recent theft at her residence.

However, the CBI strongly opposed her release, alleging that she refused to provide voice samples and attempted to tamper with evidence by directly contacting a local CCTV technician and a salon operator linked to the case while sending a private representative to obtain footage.

Prior to the ruling, Special Judge Neelam Shukla recused herself due to her former professional relationship with the accused, leading to the transfer of the matter to Special Judge Ram Pratap Mishra who ultimately rejected the bail. He said

On this basis, the CBI requested an extension in the judicial custody of both accused till August 11, which the court accepted. The next hearing in the case will now be held on August 11

Beyond the trial court, Supreme Court of India took suo motu cognizance of the case to maintain public confidence and prevent any perception of local judicial bias, placing a formal gag order on both families to prohibit ongoing media interviews and direct evidence exclusively to investigators.
