Tamil Nadu Advocate General Vijay Narayan, during the hearing, informed the Madras High Court that Udhayanidhi Stalin had been arrested by the Thanjavur Police and taken to Thanjavur. He also explained that the police didn’t intend to seek a judicial remand for him and that their only intention was to question him before releasing him on station bail.

On Tuesday, the Madras High Court instructed Tamil Nadu Police to release Assembly Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Station bail later the same day. Shortly after his arrest, due to a remark widely perceived as aimed at actor Trisha.
This directive was issued after Udhayanidhi Stalin was taken into police custody over comments he dropped during his public speech while criticising Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay over the Cauvery water-sharing dispute. Many misinterpreted one of those remarks as an indirect reference to Trisha.
It was interpreted as a sexual innuendo aimed at actor Trisha and faced a lot of criticism from various political parties of Tamil Nadu. This case was filed against him due to a complaint filed by TVK’s Thanjavur Central District Women's Wing organiser, S. Bairavi. The complaint accused Udhayanidhi Stalin in his speech on 3rd August on the Cauvery problem, he mentioned, double meaning words while the crowd was shouting “Trisha, Trisha”. In addition to this, she accused him of offending women and stated that there was a video of his speech distributed on the X platform to cause unrest among the people.

The controversy began when Udhayanidhi Stalin was addressing a rally in Thanjavur regarding the Cauvery water dispute. In his speech, he was targeting Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. Meanwhile, the crowd began chanting "Trisha, Trisha." Stalin then asked the crowd why they were chanting "Trisha," which created a double-meaning remark and an obscene gesture.
After the arrest of Udhayanidhi, he approached the Madras High Court requesting anticipatory bail. The court granted him bail on station after police questioning; the state’s statement in the course of the proceedings indicated that police did not plan to conduct judicial remand.
